2024 HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE FOR KIDS WITH ADHD
- Pottery Wheel – You know when you buy something for your kid but you’ve got eyes on it for yourself? Yeah, this is one of those things. This would be great for those ADHD kids who love to get their hands dirty, and an excellent project to work on with your child to grow connection!
- Chess – We’re not sure there is a much better game for building future thinking than chess. It’s all about forward planning and anticipating your opponent’s next moves. The only challenge with this one is if you don’t know how to play (eh, that’s me)… but you can add it to the list of things your child can teach YOU as a way to grow connection!
- Travel Magnetic Tiles – I am not sure my kids will *ever* outgrow magnetic tiles, they are just too fun and the quality is unmatched! Lori’s family loves this travel set for its portability and entertainment in a pinch.
- Soccer Net – “Just go outside!” Sound familiar? We know that soccer is a “love it or hate it” thing for a lot of ADHDers (based on what you’ve told us!). But for those “love it” kids? This is exactly what you need to get your kid outside more. And if you’re lucky to be in a climate like us in AZ… you’re headed to prime outdoor season!
- Crazy Cart – I mean, is it even a gift guide from us at this point if this Go-Cart isn’t on it? All 3 of our homes have owned these for over a year. They have stood the test of time with our ADHD kids; if your ADHDer is constantly spinning or thrill seeking, there is no way they won’t love this favorite of ours!
- Shape Shifting Box – This little box is unsuspecting, but such a hit in our own homes! This was originally introduced by my son’s occupational therapist and it has been a favorite ever since. We love that it’s small and portable, for those moments when you need to keep ADHD brains stimulated, like at the restaurant or on long road trips.
- LEGO Creator – Mal’s boys love the 3-in-One LEGOs and this one brings a little nostalgia! You know how much we love LEGO for building executive function, and we love this one even more because it lends itself to some great imaginary play.
- Tree Swing – Spinning, jumping, twirling, climbing, hanging… we’ve got some busy bodies in our homes and there’s nothing quite like an outdoor swing with a gentle breeze for a little sensory input and a bit of calm. No tree? No problem! Give your old swing set a fresh upgrade instead.
- Real Cooking/Baking Set – We love zeroing in on ADHD kids’ passions and running with them! We’ve heard from so many of you that your kids love to help in the kitchen… which delights us, because it’s such a great activity to build executive functioning. Let’s do double duty by leaning into this passion while growing important skills.
- Conversation Cards – We’ve loved conversation cards for years as one strategy to grow connection with our kids in a small, sustainable way. When we tried these, we were in love! We think these make a great gift for kids of many ages. You can use them with your immediate family and friends. Katie’s kids love to use these with their grandparents!
2024 HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE FOR TWEENS AND TEENS WITH ADHD
- Headphones – Every tween/teen needs their own pair of headphones, and some really need the noise cancelling benefits of these favorites if they are easily overstimulated by all. the. sounds. Can’t go wrong with these!
- LEGO Technic – If you ask us, you NEVER grow out of LEGO. Our kids have been dabbling in the more challenging Technic builds, and they are so fun and perfectly challenging! And, as always, a great executive function task for those beautiful ADHD brains.
- Weighted Eye Mask – We’ve been loving these weighted eye masks for over a year ourselves… they provide a *just right* amount of pressure that feels so good and calming. Perfect for your teen when they pop in their headphones, plop on their bed, and chill out after a long day of school or practice.
- Custom Neon Sign – You know your tween/teen’s most prized possession that they show everyone that walks through the door of your home? For Katie’s daughter, it’s her personalized neon sign! What’s not to love about it honestly? And bonus points for hanging on a wall, meaning you won’t find it in the 100 places it’s *not* supposed to be. If you are thinking about one of these, make sure to order early – because they are custom-made, they take a few extra days.
- Instant Print Camera – Instant print cameras… making hang outs and events better for over 75 years (yes, we checked). Of course, they’ve gone through some updates, but the immediate dopamine hit these lil’ cameras provide remains unchanged (you’re welcome, ADHD brains). You might just want to grab some extra film. It’s a sure win! Lori’s daughters love these cameras and bonus: they don’t need a phone to use a camera 😉
- Waterproof Bluetooth Speaker – Portable and waterproof is a big win for our tweens and teens. So many of you loved the idea of helping your teen in the shower by making a shower playlist (1 song to get started, 1 song for washing hair, 1 song for scrubbing body, etc… and once songs are done it’s time to get out!). And this is just what they need to bring that plan to life!
- Faux Fur Weighted Blanket – If your ADHD teen is in their “cozy era”, this weighted blanket is just what they need for chilly, chill days. You might need to grab one for yourself while you’re at it.
- Travel Brain Teaser – Is it just us, or does it get harder and harder as our kids get older to entertain them screen-free and on-the-go? These travel brain teasers are sure to keep the “I’m so bored!” and “Are we there yet?” at bay!
- 3D Puzzle – For a lot of tweens and teens, it might take a little extra work to convince them to do something with you (even though once they get started, they love!). Katie’s family did this 3D puzzle together, no extra convincing required! How fun is that finished product!? Cue the discussion about whose bedroom it will stay in… we might be buying another one.
- Diamond Painting – This is like paint or sticker by number, but even more hyper-focused (if that’s possible). Our families love these… the process is so relaxing and the finished product is beautiful! And, it’s screen-free.
2024 HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE FOR ADHD MOMS
- Walking Pad – If you follow us on Instagram, you may have seen us post a time or two about our walking pads. This is the pad we all own, and it’s held strong for hundreds of miles walked! Just be cautious, as this can quickly become an obsession (like it did for us).
- Weighted Vest – Based on your recommendations, we’ve also added in weighted vests to some of our walks which we are told is great for bone density. Lori recently talked us into trying this one and it’s great! Let’s face it… we’re all at the age when we’ve got to start thinking about bone health (sigh).
- Mother-Daughter Journal – Tried, tested, and loved in Katie’s home! This journal is a small, beautiful way to grow connection with your child… and will be so amazing to look back on years from now. Think of it as a gift for today AND for your distant future self.
- Lip Treatment – Yes, this was on our gift guide last year. Yes, we are putting it on here again. It’s just that good! And they have even more flavors (scents?) than last year, you’re certain to find something appealing to you!
- LEGO Succulent – When I saw these on my mom friend’s shelf, I knew I needed them for me and to share with you! Moms like LEGOs too! Just be careful… LEGOs like this go missing and end up mysteriously built in our LEGO loving homes.
- Headphones – When all of the noises of a beautifully energetic home push you to the brink… these noise canceling headphones (and maybe a little Enya) are just what you need to keep your chill.
- Flecks of Gold Journal – (Get 10% off with code TCC) – We’ve had this beautiful journal that our friend created for almost 4 years now. It only takes a few minutes to write down one thing that happened each day, and by the end of the year, you have hundreds of sweet memories. This journal lasts three years, and it’s a great way to reflect of those “golden” moments each day when life feels a bit overwhelming and chaotic.
- Suede Purse – A beautiful, stylish bag at a price point that makes you do a double take! It’s got enough space for all of your essentials, while breaking free from those gigantic diaper bag years. This one is on Mal’s list for the holidays!
- Hungryroot – If you are anything like us, the last thing you want to do at the end of a long day is deal with planning meals and making dinner. You know it is important to feed your kids nutritious meals, but you don’t have the time or energy. We started using Hungryroot grocery service last year and fell in love! It has been a game changer for weekly meal planning and snack options, and we love that we can customize groceries based on our kids’ and family’s dietary restrictions. Try it out today and get 40% off your first order using our affiliate code CHILDHOOD40 (all caps!).
- Hair Mask – You know when you find a product that you’re obsessed with, use for years, become petrified they may someday discontinue it, and majorly stock up just in case? No? Just us? Well, this hair treatment is that product for Katie!
2024 HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE FOR ADHD DADS
- Air Tags – These little tags have been our saving grace more times than we care to admit (though we realize this is a safe space here when it comes to talking about losing personal possessions). Save yourself the heartache of another lost valuable, and tag it!
- Portable Speaker – If the dad in your home is obsessed with high quality sound, this brand just can’t be beat. Bluetooth functionality and portability make this speaker and easy win! This is a fan favorite for Mal’s family.
- eReader – If library books go missing in your home often and late fees are stacking up (thanks ADHD)… maybe it’s time to transition to an e-reader.
- Cupping Therapy – Tried, tested, absolutely loved! I need more than one hand to count the number of friends I’ve influenced to buy these… and trust me when I say I say they are just as obsessed as we are! Goes great with that heating pad mentioned below.
- Magnetic Fidget – If you peek into our own homes, you’d know that dads like fidgets, too! And this one has tons of amazing reviews! We know what’s getting added to a few stockings this year…
- Heating Pad – For those dads (we may or may not be married to some) who still ball like NBA hopefuls, but are somehow trapped in the body of a mid-30 to mid-40 year old… trust us when we say a heating pad is an amazing gift that will not sit unused.
- Grill Brush – We stumbled upon this grill brush from a friend after talking earlier this year about transitioning away from metal bristled grill brushes. Works wonderfully, and is sure to be loved by whoever is grill master in your home.
- Foam Roller – Are we sensing a trend here…? Just one more tool we love for muscle recovery and fitness. This exact one has stood the test of time in our home (years!), which is saying a lot considering some kids see it as an opportunity to prepare for their next logrolling competition. Lori’s husband loves his foam roller.
- Ladder Toss – The simplicity and ease of this game has us reaching for it whenever we head outside! Fun for everyone, and a great way to connect with your kids in between flipping burgers.
- Cord Organizers – For those dads who are keepers of all the electronics but struggle to keep all of the chargers and cords sorted and organized, you can save the whole family from a twisted mess with these simple cord organizers!
Happy shopping, friends! Have a beautiful holiday season.
Lori, Katie, and Mallory
